Description
An Asset Inventory Package provides a centralized, authoritative record of all organizational assets—digital, physical, cloud, and third-party—captured with sufficient technical depth to support security operations, risk management, and compliance. The package enumerates assets with unique identifiers and maintains normalized metadata such as asset type (e.g., host, application, database, network device, SaaS), ownership, business function, environment (prod/non-prod), lifecycle state, and dependency mappings. For technical accuracy, it records network attributes (IP/MAC, VLAN, DNS, SNI/Host mappings), platform details (OS, kernel, firmware, container image, cloud resource IDs), exposure characteristics (ports, protocols, certificates, authentication methods), and configuration baselines. Assets are continuously discovered and reconciled via automated sources (CMDB integrations, cloud APIs, DNS, DHCP, endpoint agents, vulnerability scanners) with deduplication and drift detection. The package enforces data quality controls, change tracking, and timestamped provenance, enabling reliable correlation with vulnerability, threat, and incident data, and serving as the foundation for attack surface management, prioritization, and audit-ready reporting.
